Living with a Positive Mindset

One of the keys to mastering Emotional Intelligence is living with a positive mindset.  While many think that you can just tell yourself to be happy, it is a little more challenging when faced with difficult situations and being around toxic people.

In order to be able to live with a positive mindset, one must look back into their self-limiting beliefs that live in our subconscious mind which has been planted by others in our childhood.  This can include our parents, teachers, religious leaders, and even our friends.

Think back to why you act a certain way when faced with a difficult situation.  When arguing with your spouse or friend, what triggers you to be upset and ask yourself where are these emotions stemming from.  Many people have a difficult time moving forward, because they hold on to the past or rather bury painful memories, instead of learning how to release the pain of negative emotions.

Regardless, training our minds to let go of negativity and live with a positive mindset takes practice and consistency.  We must learn to forgive ourselves and others for past mistakes and learn to release beliefs within us that do not serve a positive lifestyle.

Growing up, I felt insecure about myself and was very shy.  Into my adulthood, I grew up not speaking up for myself for fear of others not liking me for having a different opinion.  It took looking into my past and understanding why I felt this way in order for me to get out of my shell.  By doing so, I found that I held onto toxic friendships for fear of letting go and trusting my own instinct.  Slowly, I learned how to speak up for myself, and let go of relationships with people who put me down, treated me and others with disrespect, felt the need to constantly be the center of attention, and who were not supportive of my personal goals.  Almost instantaneously, by removing the toxicity in my life, a great abundance of positive role models, job opportunities, and and overall feeling of happiness entered my life!  It was at this moment, I truly engaged deep into the study and practice of Emotional Intelligence and my life has been on an upward mobility ever since.

I still have difficult days and hard decisions to make, but through the practice of Emotional Intelligence, I have learned to think with a positive mindset first and make smarter decisions of who and what I allow into my life.  The most important thing to remember is to remain consistent.  Everyday I start my day in prayer and gratitude.  I fill my mind with positive reading and meditation.  It takes practice, but soon it becomes a lifestyle.

I remember reading a quote by Tony Robbins, "Whatever you hold in your mind on a consistent basis is exactly what you will experience in your life."  This is so true as I have experienced it time and time again.  If you hold on to anger, resentment, frustration, that is what your life will be.  How much more rewarding it is to live a life with compassion, forgiveness, self-love?

When first studying Emotional Intelligence, my mentor Jen Groover had me read Loveability by Robert, Holden.  This book has shaped my life to where I am today.  I truly recommend it to anyone who wants to make a positive change in their life.

While we live in a world with so much fear and uncertainty, know that you can make a difference.  It all begins within you!  Live in a positive mindset and see how life begins!

Much love,
Inez xo
