Removing Toxicity and Letting Go of Self-Limiting Beliefs

I am strong, I am confident, I am successful, I am healthy, I am full of abundance...what are you?

What do you tell yourself every day beginning when you wake up in the morning?  How do you start your day?  Is it full of love, happiness, confidence?  Or do you wake up feeling unfulfilled, stressed, anxious?

I am a happy person.  I wake up with gratitude each day and excited for what the day will bring.  Many people do not know this about me, but at 19-years-old I was a single mother who dropped out of college my freshman year where I had a full four-year scholarship, lived on welfare for a year of my life, did not believe I was capable of anything other than on ordinary life, kept on dating the same guy with a different name throughout my early twenties and had this inner voice that was telling me I was not good enough for anyone or anything.

While I knew deep down I had a special purpose in life, I allowed the self-limiting beliefs that were instilled upon me growing up to hold me back from success in all aspects of my life.  I wholeheartedly believe that having my first son was the best thing that ever happened to me as it slowly started my journey of self-awareness that led me to the path I live today.

Anywhere from 85-95% of what we do each day is based upon our subconscious.  These were ingrained from the experiences we lived and viewpoints and beliefs that our parents, friends, teachers, religious leaders, etc. put into our minds growing up.  While there are plenty of positive beliefs within our subconscious, it is the negative and toxic ones that we need to explore, remove and eventually replace with healthy beliefs and practices.

Being a young mother, I wanted my son to grow up with a positive lifestyle and belief system.  While I made many mistakes, I did what I was capable of doing so at the time, to make a better life for myself and my son.

The most difficult part of this journey was looking within myself and understanding why I was making decisions in my life that I knew were toxic.  Every time I was close to success or having a healthy relationship, I would do something to destroy it.  I began to realize that I had this fear of success, because I was never taught that I was good enough to stand on my own two feet.

As I began to dissect these negative belief systems, I gained an understanding that in order to succeed, I needed to let them go and believe in myself.  It did not matter what all the negative voices were telling me, what mattered was what I believed within me.

Looking within oneself can be a very difficult task to handle.  However, I have found it to be one of the most beneficial steps I have taken in my life.  Emotional Intelligence provides this answer to all that are willing to make a change.  As I learned how to heal my own wounds, release negative thoughts, and remove toxic people and situations from my life, my success soared in all aspects of my life.  I have learned to let go of my ego of always needing to be right and taking the time to focus on what is positive in my life in every situation I encounter.

To truly master Emotional Intelligence it takes consistency and wanting to change.  Some people are more comfortable living with a negative belief system because that is all they know.  Don't be that person.  There is so much love and abundance in the world for every single person on the planet!

Challenge the belief systems that have been placed in your mind, question how and why you do what you do, delete the negative labels that you have lived with throughout your life and search to identify your true authentic self!

As you learn to let go of your self-limiting beliefs, you learn to remove the toxicity of your life as well.  Eventually when other people come at you with their negative beliefs about you, you will be able to quickly deflect it.

So who am I today?  I am a student of my own practice.  I am a successful business owner.  I am a published writer for Millennium Magazine.  I am an alumni of New York University where I earned my undergrad degree and Rowan University where I earned my Master's Degree.  I am the mother of two beautiful, healthy, loving, intelligent sons.  I am the proud mother of a Drexel University and Cornell graduate student.  I am in a loving marriage. I am a world traveler.  I am a loyal and compassionate friend.

You too can be anything you want to be, but you have to be willing to take the steps.  Let go of your fears, anxiety, toxicity...these elements serve you no purpose in life.  Start today by being grateful for what you have.  Look in the mirror and tell yourself how beautiful you are, how successful you are, how much love you have.  The universe hears you and will respond!

One of the best books I have read that helped me forgive the past and remove toxic behaviors from my life is the book Loveability by Robert Holden Ph.D.  While I have read an abundance of books, here is a list of a few of my favorites that would be a great start (click on book title for direct link):

The Secret - Rhonda Byrne

You are a Badass - Jen Sincero

Beautiful Money - Leanne Jacobs

The Power of Intention - Dr. Wayne W. Dyer
